Yao Ming, the Evil Pickle
Am I doing a fantastic job of coming back here or what?

Nothing of real note happens often, and when it does (ie, opera last weekend and symphony the one before that... both fantastic) I'm so out of habit of coming here that I forget.

So weird having a night of in the middle of the week... A coworker needed time off on the weekend, so I gotta work Friday now. But that was ok, because having tonight off means I'm already up from going to the movie (Imitation Game... finally came to town and so worth the wait!), which means no sleeping in on a day off and I could actually get stuff done! So of course my computer is going at a snail pace and thus drawing on it is near impossible. Seriously need to get this thing cleaned out and organized... story of my life.

Anyway, silly little post to pass the time while my computer gets up to speed, so I'll end this with what my journal has really become... a place to keep track of the growth of my collection. Got quite a few amazing pieces since I last posted, may share some of the best later one. For now, one of the most recent and most awesome of them:

Haven't been able to find much information on them. They're from Greece, Terk is similar to an action figure that was released here, and the images on the back are all from that series. Jane isn't included in that series here. Never seen one like her before or since. The seller wanted $50 as a buy it now. I offered $25, and they accepted. They look rather cheaply made for that price, but given the rarity of them, it was worth it to add them to my collection.

Been meaning to come back for so long now, just never really got around to it/had anything worth posting about. Now I unfortunately do, but haven't been able to bring myself to do it.

I lost my baby back on Sept 10. The past 3 and a half months have been pretty tough. I've gone out of town every weekend but 2, for many reasons... visiting my dad, visiting my grandma, going to the symphony, going to the opera, meeting up with friends to plan our Disney trip next year, went to the Edmonton Expo, Christmas. All of those were brilliant, but the problem for me is that I have to switch my sleeping pattern around every time I go out of town. Which means that for the past 3 and a half months I've either had too little sleep or too much.

Because of that I haven't really had proper time to grieve for Rusty. The day we lost him, when I got back from the vet I only had time for about 2 hours sleep before I had to go to work. At home I just keep thinking he's outside (even as I sit here typing this), because he spent most of his time out there. On weekends I've been so busy I haven't had time. The times it's really tried to hit me have been at work, but for many reasons I can't break down there, so I've had to suppress it.

Under the cut is pretty much everything that happened.

My brother dropped this off for me shortly after we lost him. Some of the pictures I'd never seen before.

I love walking at this time of night... no one else around, sky full of stars, the only sound is the chirping of crickets and the occasional vehicle on the highway. As we walked around the little area about a block from the house I couldn't help but think about when he was younger. I used to have to chase him around over there, trying to coax him out of peoples yards to get him to come home at night. Tonight he just stayed by my side, didn't even run off after any of the other cats we saw. Took a turn down a nice dark alley. About halfway through it there was a sudden crashing noise and a deer jumped out a yard right in front of me and ran off down the alley. At one point Rustya fell a bit behind. While I waited for him I looked up at the stars. I was looking at the Pleiades when a shooting star streaked by them, which makes up for having to miss the shower on the weekend.

I had to go to a food safety course in the city yesterday for work. I did it a few years ago online, but because my boss wasn't organized I never got to take the test. It was pretty interesting doing it in a class setting. Learned a lot, but at the same time it was just refreashing my memory. The exam was surprisingly easy. Some of the questions though... it's so hard to stifle a laugh in an exam! It was all multiple choice, and one of the questions was "What does HACCP mean?" And the first choice was Hail All Cup Cake Pans.

The plus of going was that not only do I get my food safe cerficate (provided I passed the exam, which I'm fairly sure I did), but I also got payed for going to the course, and because it was during the day I technically get 3 nights off. Although most of tonight was wasted. Didn't get back from the city until 7 pm... which is only about 5 hours past my bedtime. Oh well. If I manage to wake up enough I'm gonna do some work in my room. And by work I mean sorting through my mountains of papers... which means I'll probably fall asleep again.

So much for making an effort here, seriously need to stop slacking off...

I've managed to get some proper sleep since my last entry, which is good, because that was 2 weeks ago! Wow... I moved my keyboard down onto the slide-y part of the desk, where it's supposed to go... it's so awkward typing! Not used to it being so low.

Anywho, I've got some really awesome new pieces to share, hopefully soon! I got that Loki figure way back in May. He's fantastic! So much detail. I wanted to do a proper photo shoot for him, but can't find a decent place to do it. Oh well.

For now I'll just leave this horrible drawing I've just finished (only took a year). I don't know what I was thinking doing this. Don't know what kills me more, drawing this scene or how it turned out.

I was sitting at work reading before my shift. After a couple minutes Matt walks in, followed by Jackie. Then I hear this exchange:

Jackie - Hi Matt!

Matt - Hello!

Jackie - Oh, I didn’t see Crystal walk in, I’ll say hi to her in a few minutes.

Matt - What? Why?

Jackie - Well, she’s reading. I don’t like to interrupt her when she’s reading, so I always wait until she’s been reading for a few minutes to say hi to her.

I didn’t realize the rule was “It’s rude to talk to someone when they’re reading. Unless they already have a few pages under their belt, then go nuts.”

Once again, I got spoiled for my birthday. Mom got me gift cards for cineplex (which I haven't used yet) and chapters, which I promptly used to buy Paris (good timing too, it was on sale for $18. Sadly, it's hard cover, and all my other Rutherfurd books are paper back, but for some reason even not on sale the HC is $5 cheaper than the PB). Also bought The Nine Old Men: The Flipbooks, which still hasn't shipped yet. And dad got me $100 Disney Store gift certificate, and a fancy new camera! It takes amazing shots, and I've been bugging the heck out of the cats with it... although Rustya's been pretty safe because he's outside all the time.

Last weekend was brilliant! On Saturday night we went to see Fellowship of the Ring, with live orchestra. Absolutely fantastic! So glad I have the movie… barely saw any of it because I was watching the musicians the whole time. That music is just incredible live. There were a few people who dressed up for it. Quite interesting to see guys walking around wearing really nice suits, a helmet, and a long beard. There were a number of elves running around, too.

On Sunday dad and I met up with some friends for Star Trek Into Darkness. Cannot begin to describe how amazing Star Trek was… just epic, everything I hoped for and more! Seriously can’t wait to see it again, so hopefully it plays here in town soon…

I was avoiding the Star Trek tag on tumblr because I didn't want any spoilers before I saw the movie (well, any more spoilers than I already knew, thank you people who don't tag...). Now I'm avoiding it because it's a war zone! Everyone's freaking out about racism and sexism (with lots of shower scene Ben thrown in). I understand where a lot of it's coming from, but everyone's throwing in their 2 cents and it's getting old fast.

After the movie we went out for supper at our favourite restaurant. And to finish off an already perfect day, we listened to Cabin Pressure the whole way home.

Just got my schedule for next week and they have me working on the weekend… The weekend which I am going to see both The Fellowship of the Ring with live soundtrack (provided by none other than the amazing Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra) and Star Trek (for which I have been waiting for 4 years, and have already spent $75 on tickets)…

Dear schedule maker, I have but one thing to say to you:

Ugh, so hard coming back and catching up after a weekned away, especially after a weekend like that!

Went to the Calgary Entertainment Expo... and Holy Hera, it was 110% more organzied than last years. The lines were about half what they were last year, and no one got kicked/locked out because they put a limit of the number of tickets they sold. Still only managed to make it to 3 panels, mainly because of timing inbetween photos. We tried to get into Nathan Fillions, but even though we got there 45 minutes early it was already full! We got into the Princess Bride panel, John Rhy-Davies (the beginning of which felt like attending a lecture by Prof. Arturo), and John Barrowman. If you want to see any of them, they're all here http://flipon.tv/event/calgary-expo-2013/
I highly recommend Barrowman's (Sunday under palomino A-E and 12:00), he was a riot. Especially about 31 minutes in, when he relives discovering he is the Face of Boe.

Didn't take as many pictures as I wanted...Collapse )

And here are my goodies from the weekend:Collapse )

Only got a couple shots during panelsCollapse )

And finally my pictures:Collapse )
